Quasi-potentials of the Entropy Functionals for Scalar Conservation Laws
where t ∈ [0, T ] for some T > 0, x ∈ T (the one-dimensional torus), and subscripts denote partial derivatives. Equation (1.1) does not admit in general classical solutions for the associated Cauchy problem, even if the initial datum is smooth. On the other hand, if f is non-linear, there exist in general infinitely many weak solutions. An admissibility condition, the so-called entropic conditi...
متن کاملError Estimates of Approximate Solutions for Nonlinear Scalar Conservation Laws
There has been an enormous amount of work on error estimates for approximate solutions to scalar conservation laws. The methods of analysis include matching the traveling wave solutions, [8, 24]; matching the Green function of the linearized problem [21]; weak W convergence theory [32]; the Kruzkov-functional method [19]; and the energy-like method [34]. The results on error estimates include: ...
متن کاملA remark on duality solutions for some weakly nonlinear scalar conservation laws
We investigate existence and uniqueness of duality solutions for a scalar conservation law with a nonlocal interaction kernel. Following [3], a notion of duality solution for such a nonlinear system is proposed, for which we do not have uniqueness. Then we prove that a natural definition of the flux allows to select a solution for which uniqueness holds.
متن کاملConservation laws for invariant functionals containing compositions
The study of problems of the calculus of variations with compositions is a quite recent subject with origin in dynamical systems governed by chaotic maps. Available results are reduced to a generalized EulerLagrange equation that contains a new term involving inverse images of the minimizing trajectories. In this work we prove a generalization of the necessary optimality condition of DuBois-Rey...
متن کاملViscous Conservation Laws, Part I: Scalar Laws
Viscous conservation laws are the basic models for the dissipative phenomena. We aim at a systematic presentation of the basic ideas for the quantitative study of the nonlinear waves for viscous conservation laws. The present paper concentrates on the scalar laws; an upcoming Part II will deal with the systems. The basic ideas for scalar viscous conservation laws originated from two sources: th...
